BlueQuartz Software develops software for materials science — delivering quantitative insights into materials and processes for engineering design and manufacturing. Our work is grounded in the conviction that good materials engineering depends on good tools, and that those tools should be built by people who understand both the underlying science and the practical realities of using software every day.

Our team of computer scientists and materials engineers collaborates with customers, users, and academic and government partners to produce community-deployed and custom user-optimized software for materials analysis, representation, modeling, and simulation. Our flagship platform, DREAM3D-NX, is a cross-platform, modular software suite for preparing, reconstructing, quantifying, instantiating, and meshing multidimensional, multimodal microstructural data — used by academic, government, and industry researchers worldwide. Our newest tool, H5Studio, is a dedicated desktop application for working directly with HDF5 files.

History

BlueQuartz Software began in 2008 as a consultancy doing business as “BlueQuartz Software,” building software libraries and user interfaces that took advantage of the emerging 3D tools and analysis methods then transforming materials characterization. Over the next several years, those efforts evolved into DREAM.3D and the EMMPM Workbench. In November 2013, BlueQuartz Software, LLC was formed, and the company has since expanded both its staff and its line of software platforms.

Funding

BlueQuartz Software’s research and development has been supported over the years by the United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), the United States Naval Research Laboratory, and other federal research programs.
